The collection draws inspiration from the history of slavery in Mauritius, exploring how the island’s blend of ethnic groups shaped its cultural identity and played a role in forming the local dialect. Kelly also drew on Victorian-era influences, inspired by childhood films like The Labyrinth, The Never Ending Story, The Princess Bride, Dune, and other iconic fantasy films from the 1980s. Although born in 1993, Kelly developed a strong connection to the 80s through her mother, who held a particular fondness for that decade. British historical architecture and castles also inspired the designer, bringing an added sense of grandeur to the collection.
